I recieved a request from one of my readers to do a general reading for both pairs of presidential candidates. It was something I thought would be interesting to do so I decided to see what the cards had to say.

I have very strong feelings about the upcoming election, but I put those aside, and rather then ask something like “who will win the election,” I chose to ask a neutral, overall question. (Note: For the record, my vote will not be cast because of a Tarot reading, nor should any one else’s).


I did two readings - one for McCain/Palin and the second for Obama/Biden

Deck used: Rider-Waite Tarot, 3-card spread


Question: What are the qualities of the McCain/Palin ticket?

Cards: King of Pentacles (reversed), The Emperor, Four of Wands (reversed)

King of Pentacles (reversed): Unyielding, someone who can identify weakness and often exploits it for personal gain. Someone who is well informed about material affairs, but ignorant of larger, more pressing issues. Blind devotion to business as usual, with little or no concern with the unintended results to others. Disdainful of new ideas. Filled with greed and avarice, often corrupted by luxury or material temptations. Can be unforgiving and without mercy.

The Emperor : A patriarch and commander, with worldly authority and power, social mastery and skill at public speaking. Ability to fulfill plans, intelligent, experienced, confident, reasonable and ability to use logic over the emotions. A driving force of politics and society.

Four of Wands (reversed): Squandering what has been accomplished, losing what has been achieved. The energy to achieve, change, and grow, once accomplished can become stagnant and abandoned, thus slipping into a state of laziness and resting on one’s laurels and relying on past accomplishments as an excuse to ignore current situations.

Question: What are the qualities of the Obama/Biden ticket?


Cards: Six of Wands, Page of Swords, Knight of Wands


Six of Wands - a card triumph after a great struggle, a victory, but also a reminder that even though you are on the right track there is a long road ahead. Ability to overcome obstacles through confidence, quick action and dedication.


Page of Swords - Someone with a balance between mind and heart, handles situations matter of factly with a good grounding in reality and diplomacy; Somne who is not ruled by emotion, who seizes opportunities as they arise. Ability to adapt to changing circumstances with a gift for eloquent speech. The sword penetrates the veil of confusion and cuts to the heart of the matters, which can be a challenge to expand and change in order to achieve one's goals.


Knight of Wands - Charging ahead with daring and enthusiasm, energy and courage. Absolute sincerity, with a deep sense of morality and honor; coupled with unlimited creativity and desire for a change. Beneath the armor lies a heart that is warm and generous, and that is always ready to protect those who cannot defend themselves.
